John Denver was a superstar artist who was a hit with his pop-folk songs and many of them inspired by Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. is a Mexican-born musician and singer who fell in love with Colorado. Denver's famous anthems about Colorado have been a major influence on many to make the move to Colorado. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame declared that John Denver is the only musician to truly embody Colorado. In 2011, Denver was named the first Hall of Fame inductee. He is the face of Colorado to many all over the world. When I travel, I always come across someone on the opposite part of the globe, someone who is from New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first thing out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown said. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short period in small folk ensembles. Danoff originally wrote it using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard early versions that the song was going to be an instant popular. The song was first recorded two weeks following it was performed in Washington D.C. performance.
